Phuong is interested in issues of politics, trauma, healing, and love in the vietnamese/american community. She wants to break through the silence.
"words. ideas. now. because we are the artists we’ve been waiting for. because our stories are for us to tell. because you can’t put off who you are. because writing is active creation, resistance, respect, healing. phuong is a 1.5 generation immigrant, vietnamese-american radical. writer. poet. educator. a work in progress. she may be one of the few oakland natives left in oakland. in her day job, you can find phuong studying literature with middle school youth. previously, she has done program coordination, youth leadership development and organizing. she has published a chapbook called growing persimmons and is currently working on a longer collection of poetry about trauma, healing, and love in the vietnamese/american community. in the early mornings— and sometimes late nights— she is writing. if she’s lucky she finds time to put acrylic on a canvas.
