PEARLS IN THE FIRE:
AAWAA 30TH ANNIVERSARY SYMPOSIUM + PARTY

Symposium 1-5PM + Party 5-7PM
October 19, 2019

African American Art & Culture Complex, Hall of Culture
762 Fulton St, San Francisco, CA 94102

For our 30th anniversary year, our theme is PEARLS IN THE FIRE!

We chose this theme because the pearl represents 30 years and has significance in mythologies across many Asian cultures. For us it symbolizes resilience because it begins as an irritant, a tiny grain of sand that over time and many layers forms a beautiful gem. Even in fire, pearls do not burn. And like the pearl, we are here and persistent in our pursuit as Asian American Women artists, unafraid to tackle anything that may limit us.

30+ Years

For years, there was no central resource to ensure visibility and documentation for Asian-American Women artists. We have been committed to providing a solution to this for over three decades.

200+ Members

Over the years, our focus has been developing a community of artists. Membership is open for all Asian American-identified women artists working in all disciplines and we are always expanding.

50+ Exhibitions

Throughout the year, AAWAA hosts large-scale multidisciplinary arts exhibitions and events at local galleries to provide opportunities to showcase our artists work.

COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS

Our goal from the very beginning was to create accessible place for Asian American women artists to belong. Becoming a part of AAWAA doesn’t just give artists the ability to document their work. It creates a community for artists to connect and engage with.

EXHIBITIONS

Every year, AAWAA puts on multidisciplinary arts exhibitions at local galleries to provide opportunities to showcase the contemporary works of Asian Pacific American women in the arts and the diversity within the APA community.
