Catherine Gutierrez (she/her) grew up in San Jose, CA where she began drawing as a child before discovering oil painting as a student in high school in Mountain View. She credits her oil painting teacher, Mrs. Sara Totah, with introducing her to this amazing medium and helping her learn a solid foundation over two semesters. Based on that experience, she developed different approaches to her oil paintings over the last couple of decades — brush, palette knife and drip or a mix of all three. BC, before children, she would take frequent continuing education classes at SF Art School and UC Berkeley and CCA to keep learning and having a larger space to experiment. AC, after children, she’s been able to take online courses through Penn Studio School of Art and learn from inspiring teachers. Some of her achievements include being in a de Young student showcase at the beginning of her career and having her works in two hospitals, one in San Francisco, CA and one in Belvedere, WA.
