ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Presented by Asian American Women Artist Association (AAWAA) and San Pablo Art Gallery, Dear Mother is an exhibition aimed to discuss and explore conversations between mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and aunties. With a strong political and generational backdrop, these legends are passed down through time, guided by strong womxn to create and empower strong womxn. We do not rely on gender or blood to relay our roles in life. Rather, we create roles of our own to combat inequality and inequity across borders. As such, stories are no longer stories, but they transform into something tangible and something worth fighting for. Dear Mother illustrates the similarities and differences through the power of oral storytelling. Our unique positionality as womxn of color allow us to further expand such visions of transnational hope, strength, and ambition.
