Pop!

This exhibition will focus on art that subverts, questions and expands gender roles within their art. We are interested in art that challenges gender roles or celebrates and centers the femme. Your art questions the status quo on gender by using and updating traditional South Asian tropes, idioms, artistic styles, and pop culture (we welcome the 90s film references)  and melds it with American pop culture. In the exhibition, we will see art that touches upon the zeitgeist - catchy, memorable and easy to share: meme-able and viral-ready.

adum!

We’re also interested in art that explores the ornamental beauty of South Asia - jewelry, kohl, elaborate outfits - celebrates it, questions it, exaggerates it - we want to know, what does this outward emphasis on beauty, often holding symbols of gender, caste and class, mean for you? How do you play with it in your art, how is it inspiring you? We are super interested in art that holds that spirit.
